drunk drivers save the environment

Honda Element Honda Insight Portland

Well, of course, not really. My two daughters were traveling in downtown Portland during the Holiday, when a drunk driver failed to stop at a stop sign. My youngest daughter, who was driving, didn't have time to apply the brakes before the collision that resulted in our trusty Honda Element being totaled. Thankfully no one was injured.

As someone who is environmentally conscious (aren't we all by now,) I had considered the idea of getting a new vehicle before the old one truly wore out, as not environmentally friendly. The Element was 7 years old, well maintained and going strong and had many years of operation ahead of it. It was lightweight and fuel efficient and a fine run around. Well the accident changed all that.

I decide to lease a Honda Insight. 41 miles to the gallon around town and 43 mpg on the highway. That's almost an 90% improvement in fuel efficiency over the Element.
